[At around 10 AM sunday morning, there is the sound of a very alarming, earth-shaking crash that comes from the hallway with the elevator.

Should you choose to investigate, you will come across four figures splattered across the ground in front of said elevator, covered in slime and bits of fur.

The first figure to pop up is a figure in a hooded cloak with a crossed swords symbol etched into the side of the hood. They use the rest of the figures on the floor to push themselves up and then immediately let out a blood-curdling shriek as they just… set the elevator on fire.

As the elevator closes over the flames, the smallest figure in a hooded cloak with a ring of hearts symbol rolls off to the side, looking at their slime-coated sleeves with a distressed nya sound. They reach up to wipe bits of slime off of the two bumps at the top of their head, flinging it on the floor before sitting up on their knees.

The third hooded figure rolls up, and then rolls? into the air? to float? The very tip of the white, spiraled horn on the top of their head jutting through the hood is chipped. :( A wilted plant symbol is embroidered on the side of the hood. They clap their hands somewhat excitedly.]

Wow, we, like, didn’t die!

[The tallest figure finally pulls themselves up off the floor with a little groan, having been on the bottom of the pile. They reach up to rub their head, careful of the hood of their cloak, which has an eye symbol embroidered on the side. Their sleeve slips down a little, and a bright green eye opens up on their forearm, swiveling to look around before it closes and blinks out of existence.]

Jeez, did we not have enough property destruction already? Cannot believe you bitches live like this, by the way.

[The elevator is now closed, and the figure with the wrath symbol just sits down on the floor and starts shucking the slime off their sleeves like they’re squeegee-ing it. Their cloak is pulled up a little, which means everybody can see their bare feet, which are on fire. grumbled:]

Wish I were dead.

[The figure with the lust symbol whines slightly as they get to their feet, leaving little time between the moment they stand and the moment they move in the blink of an eye to jump onto the tallest figure’s back, draping themselves over them as they look around. Please ignore the way the back of their cloak quivers just slightly.]

Aw, don’t say that. How were we supposed to know the elevator would get stuck?

Oof- [The tall figure only stumbles slightly, just taking hold of their new barnacle’s legs like this is not the first time it’s happened. They are allowed to feel tall.]

Well, now it’s stuck and on fire, which I personally don’t think is a huge improvement? Can we, uh, move on? Definitely not it.

[In the background, the wrath hood lies on the floor and expires.]

Welcome to, uh--here! We were going to come down earlier to greet you, buuuut someone broke the elevator! We’re here now, though, so… hello!

The guide mentioned people dying. What happens when someone dies?

[a hand comes up to rub at one of the bumps on their head.]

You just said you read the guide, right? It's pretty clear, I think! We just thought it'd be best to cover all bases just in case. And it sort of seems like we were right considering you guys already trashed this place. [:)]

[ Hm. So the death isn't a joke, or some kind of play... it really is, honest to God, death?

You didn't really stop them or clean up after them either. [idly pointing that out, but then again maybe it's hard to actually stop people from doing things.] But I guess you're one of the more respectful ones.

I still don't think I can be held accountable for that. [ After all, he's not responsible for a single person here -- he can't, and frankly, will not be associated with whichever crazy covered the common room in cheese whiz, the kitchen in steaks, and -- saddest of all -- the music room in carbonated fluids. ]

What are you even going to do if the place keeps being trashed? Pretty sure a robot tried messing with the elevator, and it definitely looks like that affected you.

You're all sharing a common space. It's not like you can be held accountable but it's maybe about making sure everything's still okay. [there are so many gross, sad rooms...]

The guide did say you're supposed to clean up after yourselves. Do you want to keep living in squalor?

He looks mildly defeated by the notion. Is this what he's been reduced to...? Steven A. Starphase... blooming class A babysitter? He sighs. His standards for everyone are low, but not for himself.

...Are you in charge of all the people who have the mark of Lust, then? [ TOPIC CHANGE, GO BACK, GO BACK TO THE IMPORTANT STUFF. ]

I don't know if I'd say I'm in charge of anybody, but as the Avatar of Lust I guess everybody with the lust mark falls under my jurisdiction or something. Just like Despair has a better chance of helping Despairs, Wrath for Wraths, and stuff like that.

"Helping"? Colour me surprised, I just thought you were a group of voyeurs who would be content with watching. Though, given the theme is indulgences, that's a bit concerning on its own.

[ The idea of someone helping him indulge in despair is actually horrifying, who decided these teams?? Though the details of that are better saved for asking Despair directly. ]

Do you benefit from "helping" us?

No offense, Steven, but while we can see you we'd really rather not watch you that closely. [ew.]

We're not getting like bonus experience or anything by helping you, but it's just an option.

Why not? You guys have something you want, we're here to help you achieve it. Maybe we're just nice people.

So the goal of everything is to indulge as much as you can in your assigned "sin" -- where's the endpoint?

The endpoint is probably whoever indulges the most? It's not really a competition but...how you get there is still up to you.

"The most"? How is that not a competition?

[ All these threads that lead to nowhere concrete... at least it's information. He takes a moment to pause and think... ]

Do our alignments change? So for instance, is there a possibility -- whether purposefully, or randomly -- for me to change from Despair to another one, like yours?

It's just not. [there's a very big difference, apparently, but they shake their head at that.]

You haven't even met Despair yet and you're looking to change? [they sound amused.] I wouldn't worry about that right now.

[ This circle of riddles. Well, it's a form of an answer at least. ]

I just think indulging in despair is a bit dangerous, when there's a thin line between indulgence and depravity.

[ He shifts his weight onto his other leg, hand on his hip, sighing at them. May as well change the line of questioning. ]

Suppose this won't be the only time we'll be seeing you, I hope. [ He points upwards to the ceiling. ] Things going to be alright, with the broken elevator and all?

Interesting, isn't it? [they seem to think about that, but they don't seem too overly bothered by that.] Talk to Despair, maybe they'll have a better answer about indulging with that.

The elevator probably won't stay broken for too much longer, so we'll be back. And the others will be around more often, too. They were just busy today.

Do you have a repairman on board? The elevator crash seemed pretty significant. [ If you have that then why do we gotta clean up after ourselves man??? ]

Speaking of, surprised you're all relatively alright after all of that. Aside from all the...

[ He leans a little to the side, unimpressed "ok.jpeg" expression looking at the elevator now fully on fire. Are you SURE you can fix that? ]

Nope! But it'll be fine. You just take care of things here. [cheerfully said, and immediately moving on.]

The crash was pretty scary, but we were okay. Maybe the slime helped break our fall after all?

[ Hm... well, it seems he's running low on the more burning questions to ask, though clearly there are subtle ones like the way he just keeps staring at the bumps on Lust's head under their hood -- but he doesn't bother asking them, because he doubts he'll get answers here. ]

There's no use in arguing against you, and if the elevator is going to be magically fixed, then I certainly have no complaints about that.

Just one last question for you then.

[ Beat pause. ]

What is with all the slime and fur?
