Good morning, starshines. It is another beautiful day here on the base and it’s the start of a new week!

After the events of the day before and the meet and greet provided by four new Avatars, you may find yourself wondering how you can get in touch with them again. Fear not. One look at your handy dandy cell phone will reveal eight new contacts added to your directory. Feel free to shoot them a message. You may be surprised.

But before you get too far, perhaps it’s worth checking out the base once more. Those locked rooms from the days before have been unlocked, free for exploration. In addition, should occupants visit the central elevator they will find the elevator in working order (and flame-free) and that a new floor has opened. Take a look, familiarize yourself, and make yourself comfortable. Life on the base is a happy place.

And speaking of happiness…it’s funny. For the rest of the week, all who reside on the base will be inflicted with little feelings of hope and happiness, a belief that they can manifest almost anything. This week, all will discover that any mundane thing they hope for will be at their disposal...though do be careful. Those small wishes may come to fruition in ways you don't expect. For example, wishing for a year's supply of sushi may net you one astronomically large sushi roll. An eyeshadow palette may provide you with samples of actual colored eyelids. And a punching bag could be mistaken for a bag full of confetti instead.

I am a Heroic Spirit, and must be bound to a Master. I do not know of who my Master shall be when I am summoned. But I found her, and she stated she was, and now I enact my purpose as a Servant.

[ Hm? Oh, another "spirit" type situation, is it. Though, the other spirit he knows about in this place seems to be completely unleashed to anyone. How odd. A summoned spirit... ]

Is there proof of your bond? What stops people from just claiming they're your Master? [ Not judgmental, just curious. ] I assume your role as a Servant is simply to do as your Master asks.

She is a forceful woman, and is a figure of royalty who demands attention. She is the mark of a Master, through and through.

Well, yes. Typically, I would be summoned for a Grail War, but here, it seems there is no war such as that to be fought.

I'll take your word for it. [ He slots that valuable piece of information into his mind -- for the time being, he can assume in whatever situation that Douman will side with Medb. ]

I see. What happens when you can't find your Master?

[ Man, you have a lot to unpack, don't you. ] I'm also curious about these Grail Wars and the like, but I'm not sure if they would be an overlong topic to chat about.

Well, in the typical case, a Servant without a Master would disappear without the mana to support their existence.

It is a rather long topic, but...essentially, the Grail is an artifact that can grant any wish. People would destroy one another to have a chance at having it for one's self.

[ Disappear... that would be troublesome. Let's hope nobody kills Medb I guess, because then either clown has no choice but to die or the clown spreads.

It is true. To be caught by the glimmer of a future, a wish, a desire...as we are here, no? But those wars are something else, as far as I am aware.

[A shrug. It almost seems helpless.]

It is more complicated than that, but...essentially, that is what it is.

If things don't get oversimplified, there'd be no end to it. [ A humouring, but also slightly humourless smile. ] Human nature is endlessly complicated, after all -- and overthinking it is a part in why it is. Like a self-feeding cycle.

If your wishes hang onto that of your Master's, what are you?
You might say that your wish is simply to see your Master win and succeed, but speaking to you, you have personality.

A very high bar to make that kind of prediction, based on the shallow well of information I have at my disposal. Hm.

[ He thinks a moment, reviewing what they'd spoken about, assessing Douman as an individual, reflecting back onto their......... profile............... ]

Well, I have two primary thoughts, then.

One -- proof of a measure of worth. You're someone who came from seemingly nothing and worked your way up, but you've never spoken a word about the results of that.
Or two -- simply for the sake of it all, because a pseudo-immortal spirit has to find some way to entertain... or indulge, as it were. [ HEDONISM EX BECOMES RELEVANT. ]

Those are very good guesses, Steven. Well done. But...they are wrong.

...Mmm. It might come as some surprise for you, but...in the simplest terms, I wanted to become a "Servant a Master could be proud of". I have accepted this role, wholly and completely, and regardless of my personal desires, my personal indulgences...she is what matters, above all.

So it is adjacent to my first, off-hand notion. [ About serving your master, to an extent. But... how sweet, the deeper logic behind it. ]

Does it come from a personal place, this desire of yours?

...I can't say I don't understand it. No, actually, it'd be more accurate to say I do understand that sentiment very well.

Serve... well, I'm no servant of any sort and he's most certainly not my master in any regard. But yes, there's someone back from home that I work with, the chief of my organization who I support as the subcommander. And as subcommander, it's my job to support him the best I can. [ Yeah, that means regardless of personal desires, personal indulgences, all of that. ]

Your organization...I see. With so few of you, cooperation, trust, and communication must be paramount among all of you.

[A nod.]

What do you think he would think? About you being here. Or are you doing this for him?
