Good morning, starshines. It is another beautiful day here on the base and it’s the start of a new week!

After the events of the day before and the meet and greet provided by four new Avatars, you may find yourself wondering how you can get in touch with them again. Fear not. One look at your handy dandy cell phone will reveal eight new contacts added to your directory. Feel free to shoot them a message. You may be surprised.

But before you get too far, perhaps it’s worth checking out the base once more. Those locked rooms from the days before have been unlocked, free for exploration. In addition, should occupants visit the central elevator they will find the elevator in working order (and flame-free) and that a new floor has opened. Take a look, familiarize yourself, and make yourself comfortable. Life on the base is a happy place.

And speaking of happiness…it’s funny. For the rest of the week, all who reside on the base will be inflicted with little feelings of hope and happiness, a belief that they can manifest almost anything. This week, all will discover that any mundane thing they hope for will be at their disposal...though do be careful. Those small wishes may come to fruition in ways you don't expect. For example, wishing for a year's supply of sushi may net you one astronomically large sushi roll. An eyeshadow palette may provide you with samples of actual colored eyelids. And a punching bag could be mistaken for a bag full of confetti instead.

May all your hopes and dreams come true, everyone.

Not someone who could use illusion magic, no. I'm not even sure you can pull that out of a tome.

But yes. I know how to use some magic.

That's still amazing. What kind of magic do you usually use?

Whatever's available that I can actually understand.

[ smile. ] Not everyone does well with every kind of magic.

Is it an aptitude type of thing?

Pretty much. Like some people are great with a bow and arrow, but can't grapple to save their lives. Literally. Some people are better with magic than others.

[He nods along with this explanation.]

Like how some people are better with a dramatic performance or with comedy. Makes sense.

Pretty much. Not sure why there's a believe anyone can use any magic from some people, but maybe things work differently in different places.

It might depend on what kind of stories you grew up with, if there's no magic there.

Do you have stories back home that tell you all magic will be at your finger tips if you just will it hard enough?

I guess the idea of having to literally hold it like a weapon would take the magic, pun not intended, out of it all.

There's a few like that.

Most of the time it's like "go to class" or "only select people can use magic at all" or it's a secret.

That's ... interesting. It's a weapon, so you learn it like you would a blade. Anyone can pick up a sword and wave it around but you need training in it to be any good, and not a danger to everyone standing too close to you when you swing it.

Same with magic, ultimately.

I don't generally work with live weapons, but that makes a lot of sense. Magic and weaponry- they're both skills when it comes down to it.

You make it sound like you do work with weapons though. Of some description.

We do a lot of action plays, so we have a bunch of props.

Oh, so you'd probably be okay with a wooden training sword yourself then.

I've used one while we were training.

There you go then. All the more reason to have some -- generational appeal.

And therein lies the difference. I don't think I've seen a choreographed sword fight in my life.

I'd offer, but it's hard with just one guy.

Kind of inefficient too. I promise you, normally a guy with a sword in his hand isn't waiting for you to follow the perfect timing or steps.

Absolutely. There's a difference between what's on stage, and how it really works.

I guess the stage is more for the drama of it all, than the gritty reality.

Stages are for stories, not the reality of a real life brawl.

I imagine people would be less willing to flock in their droves to see the reality of a swordfight, than something embellished and a little lighter.

...

Only some of them, though.
