Rise and shine, little sinners. Did you rest well? Hope you weren't too perturbed by the events of the day before. Things seem to be perfectly normal throughout your morning, but at 12pm, everyone will receive a mass text message to their phone.

Whether you agree or disagree, soon you will find yourself physically moving toward the conference room on the bottom floor, filing into the room and taking a seat in one of the vacant chairs. Two metal boxes sit at the end of each table along with a collection of pens and colored notecards. At the head of the room, Wrath, Greed, Despair and Sloth patiently wait as the TV above them displays a message.

Victim: Eleanor Shellstrop

Once the last participant enters the room, the door will swing closed behind them and lock them inside.

Wrath is sitting on the table, organizing notes and gently sliding them to Greed. Sloth is here with what looks like a dog-shaped neck pillow sticking out of the edges of their hood. The spiraled horn on the top of their head is longer and sharper. Greed is leaning against the table in an attempt to be present, hands tentatively reaching forward to take the papers from Wrath. Despair has taken their usual seat, just vibing here as they quietly observe. Oddly, Sloth, Greed and Wrath are not in their cloaks today. Instead, they are in sweatpants (shorts in Wrath's case) and cozy hoodies in their color with their symbol printed on the front. The hoods are pulled over their heads however. Once everyone has settled, Sloth chimes in.

Everyone has nine hours again! You can do it! Last time, you even did it a little early! Wow!

Hello, and welcome to your fifth trial! Over the course of the next nine hours, characters will have the opportunity to discuss, investigate and theorize about the events of the day before! While mini-investigations were held yesterday, today is the day characters will have time to examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations.

There will be a mod-tag break between 4pm EST/1pm PST to 5pm EST/2pm PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.

Finally, while voting is not mandatory, we do have a voting page should characters wish to vote! Please be sure that your vote is in by the time trial finishes (9pm EST/6pm PST) if you wish to vote.

[lenore holds up her soot-smudged hand to show the others!!]

Looks like something burnt touched this one.

[she sounds pleased about that. so she'll check out that washer more thoroughly! is there anything else to notice about the exterior, on closer inspection? anything inside?]

[ i wish i could say medb takes inventory of laundry room, but she does not, so!

She comes over to where Lenore is. ]

Are any of you wearing gloves?

[ Wow, this is the first thing she should've asked. ]

But since there was a fire, that seems to be a hit.

[the dryers seem to be normal at a glance!

as lenore inspects that washer and medb joins her, they will see the 'start' button on it has a red smear.]

[ To Medb's question, there's a beat, then he turns towards where Despair observes. ]

Is there any way we could get at least a pair of gloves, either somewhere in here or from you?

[ He does offer his shovel to Lenore and Medb as he asks, if they'd like to push/nudge/hook/otherwise move anything with the crescent or the spade to prevent them from touching evidence directly. ]

[lenore sure is not wearing gloves.]

[anyway, for now she won't be needing the shovel, she's just going to lean in and sniff that smeared-up button. does it smell like blood or cocktail sauce??]

I am wearing gloves, but they're for fashion.

[ Can Medb peer in to see if there's anything left inside the washer? ]

[the inside of the washer is clean!

also, lenore would reasonably be really familiar with the smell of blood, so she can tell this is delicious... cocktail sauce.

meanwhile, from where despair stands, they consider... then nod, fishing some out from their robes.]

If you believe you have need of them, then I suppose so.

Thank you, Despair - if they aren't useful now, then I imagine they will be at a later date.

[ He will accept them! And put one of them on, and offer the other to whichever of the lovely ladies would like to have it in case they find something as well. That way there's not just one person handling evidence. ]

Blood or sauce, Miss Lenore?

[ Medb will take one of the gloves. And well, the metatext said at a glance, which means

Medb will look at all the other dryers to see if any of those have been in use? DO ANY OF THEM HAVE ANYTING INSIDE? Medb will look for signs of cocktail sauce and soot. ]

[when medb goes looking through the dryers, she will find one of them has fresh lint in the lint trap.]

[ He makes a bit of a face, and pulls out his phone to send a text to the group at large while he comes over to check if there's, like, trash cans or something in here. I don't actually know the layout of the laundry room from the description so time to look around at things! ]

I'll let them know about the sauce.

Should we mention the soot, too? There was a little on the door of the same machine with the sauce on the button.

Huh. This dryer seems to have been used recently.

[ Is there anything off about the lint? Color of usual lint or tinted some other color?

Is the dryer with the fresh lint clear of clothes and other things? ]

[when ming yi walks over, he steps on something a little slick! his foot slides. he might slip, that is up to you.

nothing is off about the lint, and the dryer is empty!]

[ Yakkety Saks plays for a second before he catches himself with his shovel smacking into the floor, giving him something to not faceplant with.

SIGHS, LOOKS DOWN, what did he step in ]

Are you all right?

[medb's checkin' the dryer, so she'll just come over to check on ming yi and the mystery puddle.]

[ Well. If that's all with the dryer, and Lenore is checking on Ming Yi, then Medb will check around him.

Is it just a puddle, or is there a trail of something going anywhere? ]

[there's a teeny smear of some residue on the floor where ming yi's foot just was.

he will find he has a mangled little piece of what feels like goopy plastic stuck to his shoe. it's clear which is why you did not see it when no one looked at the floor.]

I'm alright, it just surprised me.

[ He'll just - very carefully lift that foot up and shift his weight to balance with the other and his shovel - rather than trying to step out of the way outright - so that the two of them can see what everything is without him disturbing the evidence further. ]

[lenore is crouching down to see. sorry mods, we're looking at the floor now. please teach us the floor's secrets.]

[ looking at this residue and whatever's stuck to ming yi's foot?

after that, can she pluck it off with her gloved hand, or is it especially stuck to his shoe? ]

[ Sorry that I can't icly have Medb do it :pensive: ]

[it is a square-ish piece of plastic. kind of puffy? medb can pluck it off, it's not super stuck, but it tears apart a little more as she does-- it seems to have already been open.

the residue is still sitting there!]

[ why are there designated smellers ]

Is it a packet, or..?

[ He lowers his foot again, but rests his weight on his heel instead of standing flat-footed, shifting backwards to make more room for Lenore. ]

Do I look like a bloodhound to you...?

[she sighs. but yeah she'll rub a finger on that residue and smell it.]
