WEEK 1 TRIAL

POPULATION: 33

Rise and shine, little sinners. Did you rest well? Hope you weren't too perturbed by the events of the day before. Things seem to be perfectly normal throughout your morning, but at 12pm, everyone will receive a mass text message to their phone.

good evening, good morning and hello! please come join us in the conference room!

Whether you agree or disagree, soon you will find yourself physically moving toward the conference room on the bottom floor, filing into the room and taking a seat in one of the vacant chairs. Two metal boxes sit at the end of each table along with a collection of pens and colored notecards. At the head of the room, Lust, Pride, Envy and Gluttony patiently wait as the TV above them displays a message.

Victims: Kaz Kaan, Grell Sutcliff

Once the last participant enters the room, the door will swing closed behind them and lock them inside.

For a moment, everything looks completely normal, until you notice Envy slumped face-down on the table, bleeding out from a stab wound in the front. Lust is busy putting a pink fluffy towel under their head, Pride is sitting slouched in a chair twirling a knife, and in that moment Gluttony claps their hands together to get everyone's attention.

"If you would please get started. You all have nine fleeting hours to find out what happened, and place your votes."

🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Hello, and welcome to your second trial! Over the course of the next nine hours, characters will have the opportunity to discuss, investigate and theorize about the events of the day before! While mini-investigations were held yesterday, today is the day characters will have time to examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations.

There will be a mod-tag break between 4pm EST/1pm PST to 5pm EST/2pm PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.

Finally, while voting is not mandatory, we do have a voting page should characters wish to vote! Please be sure that your vote is in by the time trial finishes (9pm EST/6pm PST) if you wish to vote.

Good luck, and have fun!

[Suddenly she forgets how to bones, so I don't have to run and bother the mods with irrelevant questions about the vertebrae the second she hears this.]

We felt heat in the med bay, too. I think it's likely whoever killed her was also burned, and healed the burn.

So they could have had a side effect yesterday then.

Oh, that makes sense... Those pods are going to complicate things, aren't they?

[Strip check: invalidated.]

[personal profile] aubins 2021-02-20 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
... Is it?

The pods, do they heal every single wound?
dotcom: (than a 90's trend)

[personal profile] dotcom 2021-02-20 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard that someone who tried it for just a few minutes didn't really get any results.
aubins: (29)

[personal profile] aubins 2021-02-20 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
But does it heal every single wound if you're in there long enough? Do we know if you can specify what you want healing and what you don't?

Depending on when Grell was killed, her killer could've had plenty of time to sit in a pod and heal themselves up. So time might not be an issue.
dotcom: (than a 90's trend)

[personal profile] dotcom 2021-02-20 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it also depends on how severe the injury is. So something minor might heal completely, but something more serious will take more time.
aubins: (91)

[personal profile] aubins 2021-02-20 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
And also might still leave some evidence. Are we thinking someone could have burn wounds?

Harrow-san already explained her experience with them. But we could maybe get more testimony if others have used them for less - you know, damning things.
aubins: (97)

[personal profile] aubins 2021-02-20 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. I was thinking that for some people, it might be harder to use the pod to get rid of actually damning injuries. Not without it coming across as suspicious.

It might worth keeping that in mind if we do decide to look for injuries again.

[ ... ] I know a lot of people who thought about testing it, but other than Harrow do we know anyone else?
bonetiddies: (πŸ’€that's why they're)

[personal profile] bonetiddies 2021-02-20 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. The wound I gave myself on my arm healed completely, but it was relatively minor. I didn't test how long it would take to heal more serious injuries completely because of curfew.

But they may or may not have had time to completely heal everything.

[Coming back here with bone results!!!]

. . . The vertebrae that were damaged [Sorry I don't think she'd know C3+C4 as terminology] wouldn't necessarily have been fatal, but would have been likely to completely paralyze her. It was a crushing fracture. There were also multiple fractures to the back of the scapula, and one of her shoulders was dislocated.

She was less burned on the back, as well.
sengokus: (β™Ÿ choking on their halos)

[personal profile] sengokus 2021-02-20 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[this is so brutal but at least he doesn't flinch too badly]

I'm thinking she got attacked from the back, her arm dislocated so she couldn't use her chainsaw, and then if she was less burned on the back then that meant she could've been left face down onto whatever the heat source was...?

... so I do think we're looking for somebody strong again - at least strong enough to break bone.
bonetiddies: (πŸ’€their sarcophagus)

[personal profile] bonetiddies 2021-02-20 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Harrow is. Not even the tiniest least bit squeamish talking about these things.]

I was wondering if it isn't possible that she fell. If she was lying on her back when she was set on fire, it might explain why the burns were lesser there.
messybench: (so much gooder than you)

[personal profile] messybench 2021-02-20 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Was she set on fire before or after she died? Like, was the fire just to finish her off, or cover up something?

[ wow she's making an effort ]
bonetiddies: (you'll shake and shudder)

[personal profile] bonetiddies 2021-02-20 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't say. Perhaps I ought to open her and look at her lungs? If she wasn't breathing, could there be less smoke damage?

I'll admit I've never interacted with a cadaver that was burnt alive, so I'm not certain I'll be able to tell you.

Oh - like if she fell, and then the fire sort of...

[he makes a gesture of one hand laying flat, and his other hand inching closer and then on top. like flames crawling on top of a person]

.... not knowing where this fire is is really weirding me out, Harrow-san. Unless someone's just got a convenient flamethrower somewhere.
bonetiddies: (πŸ’€it was also the night that)

[personal profile] bonetiddies 2021-02-20 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. The source of the fire is likely a key to solving the crime. We ought to consider all of the locations one could acquire a source of flame or a source of accelerant.

[Fukuda meanwhile looks relieved at these gruesome spine details?]

So even if being burned was the cause of death, she probably wasn't in pain?
messybench: (are filled with good)

[personal profile] messybench 2021-02-20 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, dude, there was a lot of crushing and fractures. I think it was plenty painful.
holeful: (I think they're just like)

[personal profile] holeful 2021-02-20 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ELEANOR!!!]

I mean, if the spine fracture paralyzed her, at least after that... Obviously breaking a bone hurts, but if burning to death feels anything like being electrocuted I'm sure it hurts a lot more.

I would say she was probably in pain when her skull burned to a crisp.

[I'm sorry lmao.]
