WEEK 1 TRIAL
POPULATION: 33
Rise and shine, little sinners. Did you rest well? Hope you weren't too perturbed by the events of the day before. Things seem to be perfectly normal throughout your morning, but at 12pm, everyone will receive a mass text message to their phone.
Whether you agree or disagree, soon you will find yourself physically moving toward the conference room on the bottom floor, filing into the room and taking a seat in one of the vacant chairs. Two metal boxes sit at the end of each table along with a collection of pens and colored notecards. At the head of the room, Lust, Pride, Envy and Gluttony patiently wait as the TV above them displays a message.
Once the last participant enters the room, the door will swing closed behind them and lock them inside.
For a moment, everything looks completely normal, until you notice Envy slumped face-down on the table, bleeding out from a stab wound in the front. Lust is busy putting a pink fluffy towel under their head, Pride is sitting slouched in a chair twirling a knife, and in that moment Gluttony claps their hands together to get everyone's attention.
"If you would please get started. You all have nine fleeting hours to find out what happened, and place your votes."
Hello, and welcome to your second trial! Over the course of the next nine hours, characters will have the opportunity to discuss, investigate and theorize about the events of the day before! While mini-investigations were held yesterday, today is the day characters will have time to examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations.
There will be a mod-tag break between 4pm EST/1pm PST to 5pm EST/2pm PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.
Finally, while voting is not mandatory, we do have a voting page should characters wish to vote! Please be sure that your vote is in by the time trial finishes (9pm EST/6pm PST) if you wish to vote.
Good luck, and have fun!

So it's gotta be at least partially premeditated? More than just 'oh, this guy's conveniently snoozing in the hallway', sort of thing.

Yeah. So that means Kaan-san definitely left his room, either because he didn't realize anything was weird because of magic, or because he's just like that. Then his killer had to go find him.
So we can definitely check the rooms of the victims... and once we get a sense of suspects, let's check their rooms too. In case they didn't bring anything with them that could be actually incriminating.

So moving forward we can start looking at the rooms of victims early in the day, and then rooms of suspects later. It's kind of an invasion of privacy but...
[frowns]
Well, hopefully people will understand.
[they can't exactly petition for a search warrant...]

This place isn't much for privacy, anyhow. It's just cooperation, at that point - a lack of cooperation will likely make people assume things, and cause suspicion.
[ so hell yeah lets examine rooms ] We also ought to follow through on whatever item they brought with them, since Grell had the chainsaw, and Kaz had... 'a giant toblerone'. That goes for potential suspects, as well.

Just because it's not meant for privacy doesn't mean we can't respect that people are going to feel a certain way about it. [mineo means business but he's also just not an ass] I don't like equating a want for decency with malice.
[even uncooperative strip check people get his empathy okay. he can't blame anyone for not signing up to get nakey or have their private bedrooms checked]
But that's fine. And if anyone had stuff go missing before Thursday, they should say so sooner rather than later.
no subject
[ he's. i can't say he's not an asshole, but. ] It'd be a foolish reason to accuse anyone early. Same goes for people who don't necessarily want to strip. What we want to get out of this is the fullest picture of evidence possible, right?
The last thing we want is a repeat of last week. We'll be thorough and professional, while we're at it.
no subject
Because they look more suspicious, we run the risk of just... messing up like last week because we jumped on the most obvious solution and rode its coattails until the end of the trial.
no subject
[he agrees]
And I still think everybody should still participate, so long as we've got probable cause for all of them. If we have leads in the first place, then they shouldn't argue against logic. Then they're suspicious. So let's get leads.
[but he doesn't like the idea of general lack of cooperation = bad. people are people!!]
no subject
[ hustle, team. find those leads. ]

Sasazuka makes a good point—if it were simply about killing the easiest target, then I think our evidence would reflect that.
[ it's all a little more elaborate than that ]
...Additionally, if this place reacted on every mild urge to harm someone, I think we would have many more bodies.
[ so it's probably deliberate and pre-meditated to some degree? ]
no subject
I think so too. So it's gotta be at least kinda planned out that you want to seriously kill somebody - not a spur of the moment thing.
[a beat as he thinks about something before he nods]
So - people who genuinely wanted to kill Kaan-san and Sutcliffe-san, for whatever motive looks like. Indulgence or otherwise.
