Rise and shine, little sinners. Did you rest well? Hope you weren't too perturbed by the events of the day before. Things seem to be perfectly normal throughout your morning, but at 12pm, everyone will receive a mass text message to their phone.

good evening, good morning and hello! please come join us in the conference room!

Whether you agree or disagree, soon you will find yourself physically moving toward the conference room on the bottom floor, filing into the room and taking a seat in one of the vacant chairs. Two metal boxes sit at the end of each table along with a collection of pens and colored notecards. At the head of the room, Lust, Pride, Envy and Gluttony patiently wait as the TV above them displays a message.

Once the last participant enters the room, the door will swing closed behind them and lock them inside.

For a moment, everything looks completely normal, until you notice Envy slumped face-down on the table, bleeding out from a stab wound in the front. Lust is busy putting a pink fluffy towel under their head, Pride is sitting slouched in a chair twirling a knife, and in that moment Gluttony claps their hands together to get everyone's attention.

"If you would please get started. You all have nine fleeting hours to find out what happened, and place your votes."

Hello, and welcome to your second trial! Over the course of the next nine hours, characters will have the opportunity to discuss, investigate and theorize about the events of the day before! While mini-investigations were held yesterday, today is the day characters will have time to examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations.

There will be a mod-tag break between 4pm EST/1pm PST to 5pm EST/2pm PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.

Finally, while voting is not mandatory, we do have a voting page should characters wish to vote! Please be sure that your vote is in by the time trial finishes (9pm EST/6pm PST) if you wish to vote.

Aah. But we're still concerned about you. That's part of what it means to be friends. That's what you want, isn't it?

I- well, yeah, just-- don't worry about me too much? It's really not worth the time, it's fine-!

[holeful]

No. I'll worry about you as much as I want.

[probe]

I guess that's up to you, but if you keep it up you'll worry a lot, you know.

[holeful]

Or you could just stop doing things that will make people worry, you know.

[probe]

I don't really get why they're so worrying.

[holeful]

Wouldn't you worry if one of us was badly hurt?

[probe]

Not much?

[he blinks, tilting his head.]

There's the medbay if it's not fatal, but if it is fatal-- everybody's time hits at some point, right?

[holeful]

[Hm. His shoulders slacken a little, defeated.]

I suppose that's just the difference between you and us, then...

[probe]

[envy frowns a little at that, brow furrowed.]

It just doesn't seem like something to worry about? It's not like anybody can stop themselves from dying if it's their time! Kind of like getting upset because the sun went down, you know?

[death is just part of life, what's the big deal.]

[holeful]

Well, sure, from a purely logical perspective. But people aren't logical. For most people it never feels like it's "their time" to die. Some people try to die before their time, too. The sun going down can be predicted. You can't really predict your own death the same way.

[probe]

No such thing as before your time! But yeah, you can't predict it-- you know it'll come sometime, though, so I usually think it's best to just live like it's about to happen.

[holeful]

Wouldn't it be before their time if they tried to kill themselves and survived?

Anyway, that sounds like a really stressful way to live, Envy...

[probe]

Nope! It'd mean that was how they were fated to die.

[but he just sounds a little confused.]

It's less stress, though, to just not worry about it?

[holeful]

... [No he's drilling down on this.]

So you're saying someone who survived a suicide attempt is living past their time to die?

[probe]

Not that, either. It means it wasn't their time, if they lived.

[if you die, you die, and it was meant to happen. if you live, it was meant to happen too.]

[holeful]

So then my point stands that someone who did that was trying to die before their time. And you can't count on people to approach death rationally.
